About Mequon

Mequon, Wisconsin is located just 15 minutes north of Milwaukee and is Located on the western shores of Lake Michigan, boasting majestic lakeshore bluffs, stately homes, lush farmland and expansive open space. The community enjoys many parks, five golf courses, the winding Milwaukee River and easy access to the I-system for a convenient commute to Milwaukee. Mequon’s rural heritage is preserved by high development standards and low-density zoning regulations. The City of Mequon has one of the lowest crime rates and one of the lowest tax rates in the Metropolitan Milwaukee area. Surely these two factors played a part in Mequon being named 19th of the 100 Best Places to Live in the United States by CNN’s Money Magazine in 2005

Mequon has an extensive recreation department with activities for all ages, making it one of the best suburbs of Milwaukee. Because Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River border Mequon, water sports abound in the warmer months. Additionally, there are several private golf and tennis clubs as well as many public golf courses.

Mequon’s proximity to Milwaukee makes it a great combination of urban, suburban and rural. While Mequon homeowners love taking a trip to Milwaukee for Summerfest, they have plenty of their own festivals to stay busy! Lobster Fest, a cocktail reception, dinner and live auction complete with a live band, is one of Mequon residents’ favorite ways to raise money for local and international charities. Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary and Milwaukee North Shore Rotary team up to put on this event that provides a fun date night opportunity!

For family fun in Mequon, be sure to check out Lionsfest in June. Hosted by the Thiensville Mequon Lion’s Club at the Thiensville Village Park, Lionsfest has carnival rides, live music and raffles. All of the proceeds from this exciting festival benefit Lion’s Club charities. Gathering on the Green is another entertaining festival in Mequon that has live showcases of different performing arts at the Mequon Rotary Park.

One of Mequon residents’ favorite summer past-times is a trip to a Chinooks baseball game. The Chinooks play in a summer baseball league for some of the most promising college players – your family could even volunteer as a host family for a future MLB star! Children love participating in the Minnow Race during the games. Similar to the Sausage Race at Brewer’s games, the Minnow Race features children dressed as minnows running the bases between innings!

Mequon also offers excellent shopping, most of which is centralized in Mequon Pavilion, the largest multi-anchored shopping center in the city. After errands in Bed, Bath and Beyond or Office Depot, stop in at one of many locally owned boutiques. Très Chic Boutique offers a personalized shopping experience with a European feel close to home, while E-Street Denim is the epitome of cool with their wide variety of designer denim and Free People fashion. Check out Sendik’s Market, another business in Mequon Pavilion and Wisconsin’s own gourmet grocer, for some of the best fresh produce in the city.
